Turisas had the duty to warm-up the audience this evening. The mood was good from the first track. Both technically and in terms of atmosphere it was a very good show. Like we used to their singer was grumbling a lot about drinking again. But this time he managed to mention that he’d still rather drank Hertog Jan (see March 16, 2008). Continue reading

Ultima Ratio 2008

Location: Turbinehalle, Oberhausen (DE)
1 November 2008

A great (folk) metal festival in an old factory in Oberhausen, fast and easily accessible from the Netherlands, only an hour across the border at Arnhem. A fantastic filled stage these days, which makes a trip across the border very worthwhile. The whole festival is suspended from the new DVD of Turisas, which is shown in between the bands, on large screens next to the stage. A wonderful line-up, so we could not pass. Continue reading

Myrkvar

Venue: Funbox Amalie, Essen [de]

A river of beer, wodka and what else. When we made it inside the venue, there was a nice crowd already, we waited and waited, but no band was entering the stage. Continue reading

Turisas (2008)

Doornroosje, Nijmegen

Heidevolk
The first folk-metalband which I ever got to see live was Heidevolk. They share the stage with Turisas, reason enough for me to drive to Nijmegen. The band is packed on a very small stage, but this doesn’t bother them, they deliver, and in a perfect way. A very good performance, everything sounds the way it should. You can hear every word they’re singing, the guitars are fine, and they there is this violin… perfect. What a pity they have to make place for Norther after they have played all their known songs and a few new ones. Continue reading
