Finnish Fire (2008)
Location: Melkweg, Amsterdam, NL
30 November 2008
To promote the Finnish export of folk-metal, four Finnish bands joined forces and put down a tour through Europe. er een tour opgezet door Europa. This should be fun, because Finland is the homeland of this genre.
Falchion
Falchion, the band with the accordionist of Korpiklaani as frontman, did not inspire me at all.
Kivimetsan Druidi
After this Kivimetsan Druidi. After I’d seen this band with a fabulous performance earlier this month at Ultima Ratio in Oberhausen (GER), so they didn’t surprise me any more. But this appearance was again strong as hell.
Score: 7/10
Battlelore
Battlelore was on now. Unfortunately, the female singer was not in good voice, to me this was just the little difference with a perfect performance. Completely decked out in the usual Middle Earth costumes the band entered the stage. Besides the most beautiful songs of the ‘last alliance’ they played all very fine old songs, which made me happy. The brilliant ‘Sons of Riddermark’ was not quite as nice as it should sound. The rest of the songs was very good, a swinging performance.
Score: 8/10
Korpiklaani
The evening couldn’t go wrong anymore, but on top of this we get Korpiklaani as well. Although the singer had a lot of technical problems, the atmosphere is very nice nonetheless. This time the band gives 110% again and does everything to make it a nice party. The nice thing with Korpiklaani is no two performances are the same. Although I saw them less than a month ago, this was a completely different playlist. This time, no quiet song with lots of drums, but mostly party-songs. The band creates a big party everywhere they are on stage.
Score: 8/10
