Heidevolk – ‘Uit Oude Grond’ (2010)
Rating: 10/10
Release: 26 March 2010
Label: Napalm Records
Already spoiled by “Nehalennia” which was already available on myspace, I put this ray disc in the player. I know the first track very well already, so I will skip over but just for convenience. “Ostara” is also a very beautiful song.
I listened to the rest, but I think it’s not impressive. How is this possible? I had expected a lot from these guys. I’m listening again and again and yes it’s such an album you just have to get accustomed to. And now? I don’t press the stop-button any more. Wow what a well balanced album. This is well thought through. Of rousing songs like “Nehallennia” to the peaceful ‘Een Geldersch lied’, which is based on a poem by the famous poet Staring. For us proud Gelderlanders (Dutch for people from Gelre) is the proud song ‘Karel van Egmond’. The magnificent “Alvermans wraak” in which a beautiful interplay of violin and rough guitars. The sturdy “Power Giant”, is actually almost everything that’s sounds beautiful on this CD. I’ll keep on listening.
