Encorion – ‘Facing history and ourselves’ (2011)
Rating: 8/10
Release: 7 March 2011
Label: Sleaszy Rider Records
A request came to us, the Dutch band Encorion wanted us (even though the album was already released for a while) to review their “Facing history and ourselves” album. The album they released it in late 2010. And as representatives of the folk-metal in the Netherlands we are honoured to do this of course.
Facing history and ourselves, an album which every reader has already taken the trouble to listen to. Not? Do it now, order it Before You Read! It’s definitely worth it.
Like every good album it begins with a nice intro, an acoustic song with a delicious, quiet, bright and catchy feel.
Immediately followed by “Banished”, a song that enter directly. What do these guys immediately clear is that they want to create rugged metal with nice chunks of guitar through. But some of this music really completes the great use of the violin. Grunts interspersed with clear vocals and the female voice of Tessa. The lyrics are mostly in English and deal with bloodshed, life and paganism. The longer you listen to the music the more you love it. Something I was personally happy with is the small piece of Dutch that they sing in the song “Val der nacht”.
Val der nacht, val der eeuwige stilte.
Kroon hen die het bloed ontlopen.
De doem der tijd blijft voor hen staan.
Als de strijd voor de nacht is besloten.
Especially taken into account this is a first record the sound is very strong, not a bad garage demo, but professional sounding!
Another + is the great CD cover, it looks really cool, which goes for the inside and the book as well, absolutely great.
I would say, warriors, keep it up.
CD cabinet? When you care about Dutch folk metal, for 10 Euro you have it.
Encorion, a band which you should definitely keep in sight.
