Gernotshagen – ‘Weltenbrand’ (2011)
Rating: 6/10
Release: 29 April 2011
Label: Trollzorn Records
The first track of the new CD of the Thuringian pagan metal band sounds really like a revelation. Voiced with great atmosphere that we were already accustomed to of these German nature lovers, but on this CD, this is even more pronounced. Weltenbrand, the title song, very forced tough vote, but otherwise a nice number. Striking is also present in this issue very clean guitar sound. After the highly theatrical world has been on fire, we stay behind alone in the sad song “Einsam”. And when you just think “there might be a little more speed in it all” we are treated to “Blind Wut” a very varied song with beautiful swinging pieces. When they play this live, I don’t think you’ll be able to stand still.
Through several songs with rugged metal with atmospheric pieces, the band takes revenge with the song “Schlachtenbruder”, which they can therefore make a nice uplifting song as well. The album is closed again with great atmosphere. This CD gives you the feeling you’re listening to one big story. Gernotshagen knows obviously how to create atmosphere and bring it in an album. Little minus is that this is a sad story which leaves little room for some more upbeat songs. An album which will be received well by Gernotshagen fans.
