Midnattsol – ‘The Metamorphosis Melody’ (2011)
Rating: 6/10
Release: 22 April 2011
Label: Napalm Records
The German band Mitnattsol walkes on the edges of the Folk-metal.nl genre. Does this apply to the new album “The Metamorphosis Melody” as well? We ask ourselves whether the band is going to take a different course?
This question we can answered very short. Although the band has clearly developed further, their sound, which they describe as Nordic Gothic Metal, remains the same. When you listen closer, you’ll notice the band has moved a bit more to the folk-path though.
The music is alternateling quiet ballad-like pieces such as “The Tide” and “Goodbye” with the heavier work such as in the brilliant “Forvandlingen” or it’s alternately in one song like in “A Poets Prayer”. All this is done with the beautiful calm clear voice of Carmen and beautiful bright solo guitar. A beautiful album, especially for metalheads who can appreciate even Gothic Metal. For us maybe a small downside the album has a little less folk influences, then we would like to hear. Personally I think the album is worth eighth points, but with Folk-metal.nl hat on, it’s only three points.
