With Saltatio Mortis you know in advance what you can expect; a nice pot typical German folk rock. So that’s also the case with the new album “Sturm aufs Paradies.
Saltatio Mortis hold on tight to the style that we like of these seven. As one of the greatest German folk rock bands they manage to maintain their position on this disc, and perhaps strengthen it even more. Because despite it’s much of the same, the music they make is very good.
These 13 songs are the best features of Saltatio Mortis, forward, danceable, sturdy songs, interspersed with great sing-alongs and a sensitive here and there (power) ballad.
The musical elements within the music are again typical for bands like Saltatio Mortis. The somewhat shrill voice and flutes are the main melody. The mainly acoustic guitars interspersed here and there by solid electric rhythm sections. The music is at many times subdued, perhaps even slightly melancholic, cheerful and hard to break through the rest at other times.
Saltatio Mortis is a king in their own genre, and with those thoughts, this CD seems to be made. Although little or nothing new under the sun, it all sounds very tasty. Although some surprise or change would have been nice, the fact remains that this album is strong in itself. If you’re not already familiar with Saltatio Mortis this is definitely a nice entrance. For the fans, this is definitely worth listening to this record, Saltatio Mortis does not disappoint again.
