Cruadalach – ‘Lead – Not Follow’ (2011)
Rating: 6/10
Release: 4 November 2011
Label: Black Bards Entertainment
Cruadalach may not be a very well known band, but their on stage a lot, so it’s not impossible to see them once. For now they think it’s time to release their album ‘Lead – not follow’. I haven’t had the opportunity to hear or see this band, so it will be nice to change this.
‘Dubh’ is a kind of intro which gets me in the folk-mood, but it’s also one announcing war. I think it’s a very nice beginning of the album. Maybe the transition to the first real song is not quite perfect, but ‘Rage starts here’ is a song which hits you right away. A song with the necessary transitions, violence, and a catchy refrain. I can imagine the people in a venue screaming: RAGE! RAGE STARTS HERE!
The second song is a their native language Czech. A fabulous song with a lot of folk. The band is grounded once by the drummer, he was already taking place in other bands, but he liked to create metal with Medieval influence and bagpipes, and this album is proof he succeeded.
The whole CD in filled in this way, violence, folk, catchy riffs and this all in a very nice variety.
All in all a nice CD, but we have to consider the band only exists for a couple of years and they haven’t released a lot of material. You can hear this every now and than, it doesn’t sound professional everywhere.
I can’t say this CD shouldn’t miss in your collection, but Cruadalach has shown their seriously on the right track!
