To be honest, I have to say, I’d never heard of this band, at the time I got this CD in my hands. Tersivel is an Argentinian band releasing their first full-length with ‘For one Pagan Brotherhood’. This band consist of three members, completed with a session-drummer.
About the CD itself. The booklet which goes along looks very nice, nice artwork and all lyrics nicely readable. The music is of quiet another level. Tersivel has obviously watched the European bands very well, and their influences are sometimes to obvious. For instance the song ‘Pagan Nation’ is a real copy of a Turisas song and ‘Tarantella Siciliana’ has a lot of an Alestormsong, and there are more parallels like this to be found, like Elvenking and Arkona. By the large variety of influences the album is not a coherent piece. The music seems to go everywhere. The music itself sounds like the European standard folk-metal. A lot of metal, and an acoustic intermezzo every now and then, nice sing a long refrains, traditional instruments sometimes, cliché riffs and cliché melodies. There’s also a to prominent place in the music for the keyboard, coursing the music the lose a lot of power. The lyrics and music are too cliché, which isn’t bad by itself, when you do this properly. And despite the fact the production is excellent, the songs miss out on character, coursing them to be boring fast and making them not stick. All in all not a very bad début from a country with almost no folk. Tersivel is on the right path, they’re good musicians, but they need to get to work. They have to gain in originality. If they succeed in creating an original sound of their own, they could grow out to be a big one.
