Nekrogoblikon – ‘Stench’ (2011)
Rating: 8/10
Release: 19 July 2011
Label: Independent
We experience more and more there are band form other countries, less traditional folk-metalcountries, meaning all not Northern Europe countries, are give folk-metal a try. Nekrogoblikon is such a band, inhabiting California, USA. Something which began as a side-project, rapidly grew in a six-piece band. Like the bands name says, they like ‘Goblins’.
Everything from artwork, song-titles, until the information in their biography, is about this little green creatures. Well, now this is out, we can go on with the music. It’s not very original, it’s a kind of black-metal mixed with folk-influences. Think Finntroll on their last two albums en you’re quiet there. Besides their music is very cliché, there are a number of surprising things on this album. For instance the first track of the album ‘No one survives’, ends with a kind of danceable electro-beat. Very original, but does it fit in the music?
All in all it’s a nice second album, musically it’s nice, singing and grunts are strong and it’s obvious they’re enjoying making music. The songs are catchy, which is mainly due to the strong keyboardparts. You can listen to the entire album on their facebook. Are you a fan of Finntroll, this is a band worth listening to!
