We at Folk-metal.nl receive a lot of request from band who like us to review their work. This also goes for the Belgian band Ithilien,. They’ve put their latest song online as a free download.
Ithilien is a Belgian band which was grounded in 2005. Musically they’re a little bit like Eluveitie, so think melodic folk/deathmetal. After the release of their First demo, the band decided to put also their latest single ‘Endless Horizons’ online.
The song starts of with an easy intro, which slowly builds up to the ‘real’ beginning, after half a minute of this the real thing gets loose. There has been a lot of attention for the guitar lines, they’re very catchy and nice to listen to. The vocals are brutal, and a comparison to Eluveitie is at place, very nice!
After approximately 3 minutes there is an easy passage. This swells slowly to an epic climax. Besides acoustic guitar, there are female vocals and strings added, which gives the end a melancholic touch. Despite of the fact the song gets a lot more varied from this, the last piece is standing on its own. The song exists as it were of two pieces, what isn’t a benefit for its consistency.
All in all this is a song which is very nice to listen to, because of its variety there’s not a moment when it gets dull. When I need to mention a negative point it would be that the first and second part are two pieces standing on their own. I am very pleased with this song, and I’m waiting in suspense for more to come. Because it has to be said, 1 song is not very much, don’t you think?
