Siluria is a band not many people shall know. But their in the limelight from 2005, and have done shows with Waylander and Battlelore. The band consist after a number of changes in their line-up of only two people nowadays, who are very busy writing songs for their first full-length. As a little taster they made this EP ‘As Homeland Burns’.
The band makes a kind of epic, largely spun out pagan metal, the way Moonsorrow became well known. The 4 tracks of this EP are all about 7 minutes, quite long for these tracks!
To begin with the positive aspects. All musicians are solid players, and can handle their instruments well. Next to this there’s a lot of diversity in the songs. And the production is also very solid.
But it has to be said, although this were good, they don’t give weight to the list of things that are not so good. The tracks are very long, but their also boring to listen to. In contrast to their great example Moonsorrow, Siluria can’t grab the attention, and surely can’t hold it. This makes listening to this EP for half an hour an pretty long journey.
Shortly: The work of Siluria couldn’t interest me much. When the compositions become more interesting I’m prepared to listen again. For now I shall not easily pick this record out of my CD collections to listen to.
