Chain of Dogs – ‘Deathworld’ (2012)
Rating: 8/10
Release: 14 December 2012
Label: Independent
Starting with their demo in 2006, Chain of Dogs manages to release an album every two years. In 2010 we got a whole album ‘Gebroake, Gehange en Gewroake’, this time it’s an EP ‘Deathworld’ entitled. This EP contains three real tracks, it starts of with an intro which works nicely towards the first song D’r Zjwarte Hond van Krapoel, sung in very nice Limburgian dialect. A very good song in the Chain of Dogs style with a lot of mandolin as we’re used to with Chain of Dogs, this is one of the main elements which gives them this unique style. The only thing which is slightly less well done in this track are the choirs, maybe it’s a personal taste.
Ich Bring d’r Doed is a song about a werewolf, and has this second nice Chain of Dogs element, the beautiful growling metal vocals of Tom. This track is really great, it has it all fine COD elements, so again this nice mandolin and great whistles. And this one has a nice addition! Mark and Joris of the famous Dutch band Heidevolk join in with their nice voices.
The last track of this EP is the title-track Deathworld, the only track in English, and again it’s a very nice one. This one is in English, something which is deeply embedded in Chain of Dogs, there are songs in English and in Dutch Dialect Limburgian.
Chain of Dogs has released a very good EP with this one. All three tracks are very nice ones, in my opinion only the choirs could have been done better. All songs are very nice and with this unique Chain of Dogs sound, it’s about time these guys get a nice label to take good care of their products, they deserve it. They have shown over and over again their capable of making fine songs with an unique sound.
