Kanseil – ‘Tzimbar Bint’ (demo EP 2012)
Rating: 8/10
Release: 2 January 2012
Label: Independent
Kanseil is a brand new Italian band, making folk-metal, with a lot of authentic instruments like all kind of whistles, bagpipes and mouth harp.
They have recorded a demo to let the world know what they’re up to.
It’s has a nice start with the sound of a fierce wind blowing, this sound gets accompanied by a nice quiet music and a good Italian spoken voice. Their love for nature is obvious with this start.
Genius Loci, has much more strength but it remains folk-metal, in this song there are raw and clean vocals, but the authentic instruments like whistles and bagpipes take the main part of this song. It’s always difficult to mix all these instruments in a nice way, and it could be improved a little. But all together it’s done very nicely.
The next song Mazharol takes off rather heavy, but again the authentic instruments take the leading part and the usual rock/metal instruments support this and give it a lot of strength.
Dar Bald Hat Geheft Zo Reda is a nice intermezzo by flute and guitar, nice and easy but sounding nice.
But the loudness is back in Tzimbar Bint, starting with flute and guitars, but heavy from the first notes. Delicious bagpipes and a good rockvoice, make this sound like band as Ad Plenitatem Lunae and In Extremo.
And this is what you may expect with Kanseil, their music is best compared with Ad Plenitatem Lunae, and this is a compliment in my opinion. I like this sound very much. The heavy rock and metal with a lot of authentic instruments, delicious.
Again we have a nice Italian band on our hands. Hopefully we won’t have to wait long for a first real release.
