Magda Przychodzka – ‘Pradzieje’ (EP 2013)
Rating: 7.5/10
Release: 17 January 2013
label: independent
Magda Przychodzka is the former singer of Vecordia. She was active in song-writing in this band as well, and now they have decided to go separate ways. We had a few glimpses on her new work recently, but now she has released an EP called ‘Pradzieje’ with her own songs.
Listening to the first song ‘Gusla’ it’s immediately noticed it sounds a lot more like the traditional folk. It’s no wonder the emphasis lies on the vocals in her music. The vocals are done in a very traditional Polish folk-way. This could be a well know Polish song.
Jaskółeczka is a more solid rock song, with nice flutes in it giving it an even more folk-sound.
And this is the same in Ku Plomieniom, good decent folkmusic with a solid background of guitars and drums.
In Poludnica this feeling is slightly less, there are some other influences of gothic metal for instance, the instrumental basis of this song is somewhat heavier.
And also Zmora has this same ‘feel’. It has more hit-potention. I can imagine this is could be a small hit in Poland and surrounding countries.
All in all, Magda Prychodzka has made a very decent EP with Pradzieje. It’s obvious female singer Magda is the mastermind behind this project. The emphasis of the music lies with the vocals, the instruments are the background for the vocals and the lyrics. We find this not very often in the folk-metalscene. Most of the times we’re dealing with bands in which the vocals are only a piece of the total sound. Maybe the best description is we’re not dealing with a folk-metalband, but with a folk-metalsinger. And this is nice because it’s something different. And it’s good. The songs are nice, well-composed and the recordings are done very nicely.
