Ambehr – ‘Bezdna’ (2012)
Rating: 7/10
Release: 16 April 2012
Label: Sound Age Productions
Folk/power-metalband Ambehr released Бездна (in English Abyss). After a few albums with English titles this one has a Russian title and the songtitles and lyrics are in Russian as well.
This album isn’t very loud, there are no screams, no raging guitars nor are their pounding drums on it. It’s all neat power-metal. With their line-up with not a single authentic instrument and even no keys to add a surrogate folksound the music is not very folk as well. The folkpart of Ambehr is contributed by the vocals. The clear male and female vocals are in a typical Russian style. The male vocals are not as raw as we’re used to by them in the past. But both voices are still in a nice symbiosis with each other.
I can’t get really excited by the songs, but they’re not bad either. It’s more they lack some tension, and they’re all kind of neat. The fans of bans like Saurom will like this music although because it’s all nicely done.
At this album of Ambehr their musical style has developed to powermetal with folk-influences in the vocals. Fans of the powerstuff should give it a try.
