Ogmiös – ‘Demo 2013’ (2012)
Rating: 5/10
Release 21 December 2012
Label: Independent
Ogmiös is a rather young band which is founded in 2011. They participated in the compilation-album CD Wild Folk, with a lot of folk(-metal) bands with the track La Danse de l’Ours of their demo 2013.
The demo starts with the track La Légende de l’Ours, which is a spoken legend, a nice start of an album but not a ‘real song’ of course.
This intro is followed by La Danse de l’Ours, as mentioned this track is on the compilation Wild Folk and despite the fact the quality of recording and mixing is not very high, it’s a track which draws you attention somehow. An instrumental one it is and it has some nice variations. And because it’s a demo, you can’t expend it to be without any failures. The time in the studio is simply too expensive to record everything until it’s without failures. It’s a song which could be done much nicer with a bigger budget, but the track itself is nice.
I don’t know what went wrong with See you in Valhalla, which isn’t a bad song at all. Rather catchy, the recordings are done in a basement, which doesn’t do them any good. The whole sound suffer from this, but the vocals the most.
Belenos is again a nice song, but the recording and mixing aren’t nice at all.
The short Outro is nice, sounds of nature and some spoken words.
Regarding this is not an official album but a demo, we can say there are some nice songs at this demo, compliments for that. It’s really a shame the recording and mixing is very bad. I don’t think the band pleases itself by this demo. The songs are good, but you can’t really listen to them in a nice way, because of the poor quality. The exception on this is La Légende de l’Ours, which is a somewhat better recording.
I hope they can get the money to record a better demo, which would be a nicer advertisement for their nice songs.
