Lucian the Wolfbearer – ‘The Haunting’ (2014)
Rating: 6/10
Release: 11 November 2013
Label: Independent
Desperate, seeking a way through thick spider-webs, strung in a dark cave. That’s the feeling I get when I’m listening to Lucian the Wolfbearer’s new album ‘The Haunting’. A magnificent title of this album, because I have the oppressive feeling like I’m in a haunted place.
But what a disappointment, this album is for me. Where Lucian the Wolfbearer got me immediately in the first track ‘I’ on the first album, from where on I could only be pleasantly surprised by his nice voice and the dark and gloomy feeling. It bores me quite soon on this album. The influences of the Nordic folk are gone, and this leaves us with the dark and gloomy aspects of the music.
For anyone who was fond of the folk-elements in Lucian the Wolfbearer, you can skip this album. If you like the dark and gloomy aspects of this music, it can’t become much darker, so you should listen to it yourself.
