Garlic Kings – ‘Sluchalis’ veshchi i poluchshe’ (2014)
Rating: 7.5/10
Release: 4 June 2014
Label: Independent
Garlic Kings, a huge Russian Folk-punkrockband from Russia, huge because they have no less then 8 bandmembers. Usually the name Celtic punk is used in this kind of music, but that isn’t the right name for the music Garlic Kings make. They use pure Russian folk to blend with their punk, the product of this brewery is nonetheless just as contagious as the other bands in this genre.
The band uses instruments like flute, accordion, saxophone, mandolin, bagpipes and a lot more, to create this happy mix.
On this album are no less then 11 nice punkrock tracks. The band makes punkrock, more in the style of great bands like Green Day, but mixed with folk, in which the use of the saxophone gives it a very nice taste of their own.
For the fans of Celtic punk, Garlic Kings is a band which should definitely be checked. It’s not totally different, but the use of Russian folk and saxophone makes it all slightly different.
