Arcænium – ‘Demo’ (2015)
Rating: 3/10
release: 2015
Label: Independent
USA based Arcaenium release their first demo. And, to start with the conclusion, that is too soon. Bordering on the line between folk metal, power metal and some kind of epicness, it’s just not good enough yet. The demo contains two songs: Sky hunter (04:46) and Sign of Arcaenium (07:42). What’s wrong then? Well, first of all any band can record its music with a decent sound these days. You don’t have to hire a studio for a week, costing you thousands of euro’s, or dollars in this case. If you’re going to make interesting music, make it sound good. And they didn’t. Basic mistake. And unfortunately not the only one. The speed is not consistent. Especially on Sign of Arcaenium the drummer falls asleep from time to time. When he wakes up again, the speed goes up a little. And there is more. If you’re a clean singer, it’s important to sing with a steady voice. This guy doesn’t, which is basic mistake number three.
The song writing is okay, so there may be a future for the band still. But only if everything is done properly. If I was in this band, I would take the demo off my Facebook and run back to the rehearsal room.
Come back when you can deliver some interesting music, with a good sound, steady drumming and ditto vocals.
