Join Ephyra on their path
Ephyra is a Melodic Death Metal band with Epic and Folk influences. The band already toured all over their native Italy and beyond, appeared in radio shows and festivals such as “Fosch Fest”.
Often sharing the stage with acclaimed international bands such as Satyricon, Carcass, Finntroll, Elvenking and Furor Gallico.
Not so long ago they released their second full length album. Time to get to know them a little bit better!
Congratulations on your new album, “Along the path”! Could you tell us a bit more about the album? “Thank you! Along the Path is our second album released by Bakerteam Records. It is a mix of heavy guitar riffs, folk melodies of harps, strings and flute, growl male and clean female vocals.”
Is it a concept album?
‘Yes, “Along the Path” is a concept album that talks about the destiny of a warrior who has lost everything but keeps on fighting to survive. And it’s a metaphor of the hardness of our actual life with all its difficulties.’
How does the song writing go in general? Is there one band member that writes the lyrics?
‘Normally we start from some guitar riffs and then we build the song. The lyrics are usually written by the two singers.’
Can you tell us something about how Ephyra got together? And how did you come up with the name?
‘Ephyra was born 10 years ago as a cover band, but in 2009 we started to play original music. It’s hard to define what kind of music we play because it’s a cross of influences from melodic death to folk/epic and symphonic metal. We had a lot of problems with the line-up, it’s hard to remember how many musicians have played in our band and this is why the songs of the first album “Journey” are less homogeneus than in “Along the Path”.
Finally it seems we have a stable line-up so we can work better. The name “Ephyra” originates from the videogame “Severance: Blade of Darkness”. We liked the epic sound of the word and we decided to use it as the name of the band.’
What are your influences?
‘Melodic Death Metal, Folk Metal and some epic influences.’
Davide from Furor Gallico can be heard on the song “All at once”, is this the only song we can hear him? How was working together with him?
‘Yes just on the song “All at Once”. Working with him was very professional but very funny and we had good time together.’
Is it difficult to ‘get out of Italy’ with your music? To get gigs in other countries?
‘Our music is already appreciated foreign but to have more gigs outside Italy the band should have budget and time to achieve solid goals.’
What do you think about the streaming – and social media nowadays? Do you see this as a curse or a blessing for the band?
‘We think that the streaming and all the social networks help the bands to be known worldwide. Meanwhile, it’s hard when social networks generate too much competition among the bands.’
What would you like to achieve in the future?
‘Now we have to promote the new album so we will play a lot of shows. The ambition is to grow up and have gigs around the world.’
Is there anything you would like to share with the Dutch fans?
‘Thanks a lot to you. We appreciate the work of people like you, who spend their time to give space and visibility to the underground scene and to us (poor musicians :D). The last words are for your readers: follow and support us on our official channels you will find them below… and buy original music to keep it alive.’
Stay Ephyra \m/
