Vanir – ‘Aldar Rök’ (2016)

Personally, I always liked Vanir’s albuns, but Aldar Rök surprised me. The Danish band changed some members and you can feel differences in the style in this new album when compared with The Glorious Dead (2014).
Nowadays, Vanir is less viking and more melodic black: there are no more bagpipes and whistles, only keyboards. This change was very interesting, creating a heavy and atmospheric feeling for Aldar Rök. This means a maturing of the band? We can’t know yet… we’ll see…
The songs have strong energy from beginning to end of the album, with nice lyrics and riffs. The bad thing is: it is a mini album (31 min)! In the end you want more and more. Songs Pretorian and Wrath of Sutr are the highlights.
The cover art is incredible and translate the spirit of Aldar Rök.
