Skaldborg – ‘Vsemi Zabytoy Tropoy’ (EP 2016)
Rating: 7.5/10
Release: 7 February 2016
Label: Independent
Ukraine folk-metalband Skaldborg released their debut-album, the EP ‘Vsemi Zabytoy Tropoy’. And EP with four songs filled with a regular kind of folk-metal. Besides the metal-instrumentation, there are male and female vocals, accordion and violin. All together a nice mix for folk-metal, and they make a fine job of this.
Intermediately from the start with the instrumental track ‘Probuzhdeniye lesa’, it’s obvious what they intend to do, create a nice folk-metal sound.
The songs are very decent, don’t expect to hear a new song for your ‘Greatest Folk-metal hits’ list, but this piece of work contains 4 decent compositions which form a fine showcase for Skaldborg. In my opinion the best to songs are the title-track ‘Vsemi Zabytoy Tropoy’ and the last track ‘Obez’yaniy pir’ in which is a nice slightly lingering track in which the Ukrainians display a very distinct sound.
Skaldborg made a nice debut, hopefully they keep on following their own path, because this band has all it takes to create very nice things in the future.
