Saltatio Mortis – ‘Licht und Schatten’ (Best of 2016)
Rating: 8.5/10
Release: 17 June 2016
Lbael: Napalm Records
Here’s a thing: I never heard Saltatio Mortis before. So, this album was my first contact with the band. So, I can’t say if the chosen songs are REALLY the “best of”, only if this album is a nice collection or not.
The first thing which caught my attention was the mix of styles in the Germanic band: from punk to gothic, passing through folk and metal. The consistence of Saltatio Mortis through the years and 11 albums is impressive. This album also have three previously unreleased songs, which is great and perhaps something special for the fans (Schöne neue Welt, Fatum and Weiß wie Schnee).
There are 25 tracks in “Licht und Schatten”, divided in two discs. Is noteworthy the absence of songs from the three first albums and also from the last two (Zirkus Zeitgeist and Zirkus Zeitgeist – Ohne Strom und Stecker). Why they ignore that? Some problem with Napalm Records?
In general, Licht und Schatten is a nice and fun album.
