Rats – ‘Por Terra, Céu e Mar’ (2016)
Rating: 8.5/10
Release: 7 October 2016
Label: Independent
The Brazilians of RATS (Riot Aboard the Ship) released their nice debut album “Por terra, céu e mar” (“By road, sky and sea”).
The band is from Rio de Janeiro and is formed by Kito Vilela (vocals, guitar), Fernando Oliveira (banjo and mandolin), Bruno Pavio (Bass), Fernando Gajo (accordion) and Pedro “Falcon” Richaid (drums). The album also includes the participation of Alex Navar, from Tuatha de Danann in the bagpipe.
“Por terra, céu e mar” holds a mixture of folk-punk, country, polka and Irish music and was a great surprise for me. It’s nice to see the Celtic Punk scene growing up in Brazil. This is my second Brazilian album review in a short period of time (the another one was Lugh). Awesome!
The highlights certainly are: “O velho e o cão”, “Por terra céu e mar” and “Saloon 79”.
And interesting stuff is that the album was produced by Jimmy London , the lead vocalist of Brazilian countrycore band Matanza. So, if you know Matanza, you can feel they.
