It seems a bit quiet around the Russian band Grai these years, with only the release of a single now, and a single last year. We have to go back to 2014, when we got treated on their full length ‘Mlada’. But there may not have been a lot of releases, it’s not quiet at all. This new single ‘Donya’ is released in the midst of a tour, the band does with SatanaKozel and Anabioz.
Do you have to expect something new from this new single? No, but on the other hand: do you need to? Grai is Grai, nice solid guitars, clean guitarpieces, clear female vocals and flute. The typical Slavic folk, forms the warm heart of the band. This sound can be felt throughout their music in the melodies of the songs and in the way of singing of Irina.
And this song is not any different. It could have been one of the songs of ‘Mlada’ as well, and I really don’t mind that.
The song is just as nice as lots of their songs, the only sad thing is: it’s just a single, even more sad: it’s just a ‘one-track single’. 4.44 Minutes of ‘Donya’ and it’s over.
Grai offers a very nice single again, this will please all their fans. But I hope they will release something bigger soon. I wouldn’t mind another full length album with these kind of songs!
