Bucium – ‘Mioriţa’ (2017)
Rating: 7/10
Release: 23 November 2017
Label: Independent
Don’t jump to conclusions by only reading the head-info for this album. I will get straight to the point here. What might look like a low rating is merely based on the lack of metal or louder rock in this release. The whole album is very ambient, it consist atmospherical soundscapes with lots of dreamy folk from their homeland Romania.
Fine musicianship again on this Bucium album, the arrangements are beautiful with nice violins everywhere. A perfect album to lie on your back in the grass and let the warmth of the sun comfort your body.
Unfortunately it isn’t that warm, where I’m listening to ‘Mioriţa’ and I find it difficult to give it my undivided attention for the whole duration of the record. I would have liked to seem some more variation and some more up-tempo in some tracks.
Worth mentioning is the magnificent art-work on this album. This album comes in a large package with a beautiful vinyl scaped CD and lots of cards, each one with beautiful paintings and the lyrics of a song. One of the most beautiful packages I’ve ever seen.
This is a nice one when you fancy some lazy listening, but when you like to at least tap your feet every now and then, this wouldn’t suit you. Great stuff for easy-listening ‘though.
