Malasaners are a Celtic punk band from Bamberg Germany. ‘Footprints’, is an interesting album it has a nice folk punk vibe and through the use of a wide range of instruments it never gets stuck in a rut. The singer has a suitably whisky soaked voice and the songs are arranged well. “Sell the Night” kicks the album off in classic Celtic punk style and would not feel out of place on a Dropkick Murphy’s album. “My Time Before I Die” starts off with a great harmonica solo that gets used throughout the song. Throughout the album every instrument seems to get a chance to shine and all of them are excellent. The nice drum rhythm that opens “Workers on the Run”, anchors the song and “Long Live the Glory “,features a bass solo that really stands out. The accordion makes many appearances and in the song “Footprints”, it pairs with the banjo for a memorable track. The Guitars really get to shine in tracks like “The Stars Are Falling”, And “I Just Can’t Stay and Wait” where they are allowed to take control. Both songs feature memorable solos. The best track for me is the final cut, “Your Wars”, it has a great acoustic vibe and the protest theme really pops for me I usually hit repeat as soon as it’s over. The thirteen tracks are all under 4minutes in length but the album still seems just a bit too long. If there were a few more tracks as good as” Your Wars” this would be a homerun. As it is, it is still quite good and if you like punk rock with a Celtic Folk twist you will most likely really enjoy it. That bass playing is really great.
