Sigelpa – ‘Pais de Titellaires’ (EP 2018)
Rating: 8.5/10
Release: 16 March 2018
Label: Independent
I’m sad to hear that Sigelpa is apparently calling it quits because this EP is really great. Angry music that’s catchy as hell with a nice foundation of folk instruments. The album cover shows a colorful circus in the background and a smiling middle finger in the foreground. It’s as appropriate as it can be. The music is unhinged at times as well as the lyrics and its works really well. The accordion stands out in every track as well as excellent fretwork on the guitars and bass. These tunes are catchy and will stick in your head. The videos for the three songs on the ep are on Youtube with translated English lyrics so even a one language dummy like me can appreciate the seething anger underneath the melodies. The E.P. is very short but sweet” Pais de titellaires”, showcases the excellent mix of instruments and a very catchy tune that ends with a harmonious vocal rollout that is classic. “Oda a l’Odi ,“ has a nice violin in it and again great use of harmony and guitars. “Remeu”, is my favorite track. Great guitar riffs mixed with the accordion and male and female lyrics make it the EP’s highlight. Those unhinged guitar solos are really sweet and will stick with you. Again I’m sorry to say this is probably the last thing for this great band. The world could use more anger and harmony mixed into our day to day lives. Maybe if we appreciated it more these bands would be able to continue. Great work guys! Thanks for the excellent tunes.
