Finally in our hands the first work from the band ‘The Hu’. From Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia) they have begun to captivate the folk metal scene with its sound so loaded with a unique style. We started this album with “Yuve yuve yu”, a song that both fans of folk and those who are not, may have already heard thanks to the virality of their videos and that unique style also seen in their looks. The video of “The wolf totem ” also highlights the visual aspect, characterized by motorcycle bands and very consistent with the general aesthetics. This song has a hypnotic and tribal sound as a perfect demonstration of what the band is and the sound we are going to have on their first work. Sounds loaded with Mongolian throat singing, ancestral rhythms and lots of energy.
The album continues with “The Great Chinggis Khaan”, a song from which we can also see the video, but it has not yet been as popular as the previous 2. For those who have not heard this band, you will be surprised a little with this distinctive voice of the Mongolian tribes, but folk-metal lovers may already know the style by excellent bands like Mongol, but in ‘The Hu’ is more leaned towards instruments from this style of folk. They even catalog their style not as folk but as “Hunnu Rock” ( by the Hunnu empire), a proper description that I’m sure will open a lot of doors for their career around the globe. This style continues up to the last track “Shireg Shireg”, a very natural and pure folklore song.
There isn’t much else to say that you can’t feel and enjoy listening to their first full length . This album is a great debut for the band on the worldwide music scene, and even has them currently on tour in the United States, where the audience have been able to see spontaneous presentations in the New York subway and witnessed that all his talent is as much or more impressive live, and showing all the knowledge, experience and talent of its members -who all have studied music- which gives all the quality that you can hear in ‘The Gereg’.
If what you are looking for here is metal music accompanied by folk instruments, this is not the case, but if what you want is a new experience that opens your mind to new cultures and sounds, this is definitely the album to listen to. One for not letting pass.
