Fiddlers Green are one of my favorite bands and the main reason is consistency. They just make great music. Every release is filled with great songs and great music and its been that way for …oh 30 years. This album is filled top to bottom with the most popular Irish bar songs of all time and while they really don’t break any new ground here, I don’t think that is the intent. They could have released a greatest hits album of their own stuff or reimagined their best tunes but instead they recorded a bar song masterpiece that is great to listen to. These songs have been done by everyone including me and they still get standing ovations in every bar in every place where they are played. There’s just something about a great song that everybody knows by heart. These recordings are fantastic, and I just keep hitting repeat. Drunken Sailor has never sounded so good and Galway Girl crackles with the same kind of energy that Steve Earle gave to the original. There’s nothing I can say about these songs that hasn’t already been said, each one is a standard and well-loved everywhere. These are for the most part faithful to the originals but played so well that electric sparks should shoot out of your speakers. This is a pretty short review, but the reason is that this is a pretty perfect album and there is just so many times I can say its awesome. The playing is spot on and the vocals are sparkling and crisp. Play on high volume and enjoy!!
