Ferocious Dog – ‘The Hope’ (2021)
Rating: 9/10
Release: 15 October 2021
Label: Graphite Records
The Hope opens with an ominous instrumental that bleeds beautifully into a wonderful rendition of Haul Away Joe. I love this version of the song especially paired with the intro it sets the tone for a well done and emotional album. Pentrich Rising continues the ominous vibe with a nice beat and some great storytelling. Next up is Victims a song that gets firmly wound around your brain with a driven hook that sounds like Rise Against.. From Broken Soldier to 1914 the album takes on a deep emotional tone that moves through the subject matter with very catchy and well done songs. The punk /country vibe of the entire album is really great and gets stuck deep into your brain on repeat listens. I’ve been a fan of the band for years but this album is defiantly next level brilliant. After 1914 the band moves back to punk country and rock with standout tracks like Born under Punches, Punk Police and Slayed the Traveller. They also Include a wonderful rendition of The Parting Glass and a couple extra tracks highlighted by Will you (featuring Hazel O Conner). I’m impressed by the growth and maturity in both songwriting and performance on this project. Always a fan I will eagerly await their next project.
