Harpyie released a new album ‘Blutbahn’. Well, reading back my previous reviews, it’s obvious I’ m not always ‘in love’ with the German Medieval metallers. But once again I pulled the short straw.
The band is on the move the last years, their sound has become more solid over the past years, but now the vocals seem to slide back to their earlier sound. This creates a missmatch between the vocals and the music.
The lyrics are on the dark side of life again, the stories give you a nice small peek in sort of small horror-fantasy stories. Nice approach, but when not done with utterly commitment, you can easily find yourself looking at a cheap teenage horrormovie.
The band seems still looking for a nice balance in their music. Lyrically and musically this could work, but I feel the vocals are tending to take a slightly different path, losing the connection.
This album will be appreciated by their fans, but I can’t really loose myself in this album.
