The Rumjacks – ‘Brass for Gold’ (2022)
Rating: 9.5/10
Release: 11 February 2022
Label: ABC Records / Four
One of my favorite bands The Rumjacks hit the ground running in 2022 with a follow up EP to the excellent, Hestia. The EP Brass for Gold contains eight blistering tracks of Celtic punk that needs to be played at 11. The songwriting and lyrics are crisp and tight and continues the path started in Hestia. Mike Rivkees sounds wonderful and the band seems energized and full of creative spirit. I love this band and I’ve loved their back catalog as well. I so glad to see that they haven’t missed a beat since the shakeup in the lineup. There’s a slight change in the sound but it is a great one. Lyrics are well thought out and the storytelling is fabulous. All eight songs on this E.P are highlights and can and should be played over and over to increase the length of this short Album. I’m impressed with the quality of this offering especially coming so close to Hestia, which was just about perfect. From the opening chords of” Bounding Main” to the final note of the singalong” Falling Back” there is not one note wasted. Do yourself a favor and get this to play on repeat this St Patricks day you wont regret it. Slainte.
