Finnegan’s Hell – ‘One Finger Salute’ (2022)
Rating: 8.5/10
Release: 25 November 2022
Label: Sound Pollution
Finnegans Hell come out swinging with this new release. Its obvious that these swedes are angry and they are going to let you and I know. The first five tracks include What have you got in the end, One finger salute, Read my lips and Godforsaken town. Bleak stuff for sure but delivered with such glitter and beauty that they leave you singing them over and over. That’s what the best Celtic Punk is for they take our base emotions and put them in a catchy song that we can sing at the shit in our lives. Its cathartic and bands like Dropkick Murphy and the Pogues have always done it the best. You can add Finnegans Hell to this list of classic punk bands. They have firmly cemented their place there with each new release. Angry indeed and they don’t hold back on the lyrics much. A song like One Finger Salute isnt for weddings or church but it will probably be on repeat in many peoples cars where they will sing it at the top of their lungs. The musicianship is top notch throughout with some truly inspirational whistle playing. Great Banjo and loud electric guitars. Who could ask for more. This album has very little slow down and even the few tracks that are mid tempo I would not call ballads. However that not what this is about and it doesn’t detract from what is a wonderful group of songs aimed at punching the world in the face and coming out better for it. This is a great album that should definetly find a place on everyones playlist.
