Symon Muzyka – ‘Symon Muzyka II’ (2022)
Rating: 7.5/10

Symon Muzyka, the folk-metal project of Belarus band Dialectic Soul released a new album last year. To keep things simple the album is called ‘Symon Muzyka II’, since this is their second release.
The band managed to create a very nice album with a very folky feel. Not only do they use the sound of traditional instruments here and there, the basis for their folky taste is laid down by the rythms. So, even when we only hear the guitars there is this folky feel. This is enhanced by the use of clear female vocals with harsher male vocals.
The songs are strong, and I find it a pity I don’t understand the language. But I don’t think they should change this. In my opinion Folk-metal is at it strongest in the native language of a band. And since the songs are based on the poetry of Yakub Kolas there should be changed a thing.
Despite the songs are all of a nice quality, there could be some more variation in them. This would enhance the tension of the album.
The recordings don’t sound as fresh as they could overall. Sometimes it sounds a bit from under a blanket, especially where the authentic instruments are heard.
Nice to hear from Symon Muzyka again, they released a nice album with a few small flaws, but which is still nice and would appeal to the fans from that region I guess.
