Subway to Sally released ‘Himmelfahrt’
Subway to Sally will release their 14th studio album, Himmelfahrt, today. Since the beginning of their career, the band has dealt with the abysses of the human soul and celebrated great successes with it. Himmelfahrt now marks a turning point: hope is the leitmotif of the new album. Confidence is celebrated, but in the face of current world events, it is not without bitterness and bitterness.
Subway to Sally prove on ‘Himmelfahrt’ that even after more than 30 years of band history, they are still in tune with the times and innovative. True to the motto “never back, always ahead” from “Leinen Los”, the Potsdamers once again deliver a musical work of the highest quality. Great arrangements, profound lyrics, sometimes rousing, sometimes restrained melodies as well as a constant drive forward characterise Subway to Sally’s songs on Himmelfahrt. Sometimes loud, sometimes quiet, but always peppered with the familiar trademarks, the band heralds a new beginning.
The band says: “Songwriting for Ascension began long before Corona, shortly after the release of their last album Hey! (2019), which in retrospect feels prophetic and depressing in the face of pandemic and war.” Looking at the material that followed, at a certain point the band had to grapple with the question of whether now is exactly the right time to celebrate hope. “Hope is fuel for the future” (Subway to Sally), and so the original material for the new album was deemed out of time and disposed of, paving the way for what can be heard on Ascension today.
Subway to Sally: “Many of the songs on the new album are now about departure and journey, about reaching out to others to lead them from the darkest depths into the light. The most recent events in the world, however, put this hope to a severe test. Wretchedness and bitterness cloud hope. So even God has to have his say on the album, to give vent to his disappointment in his work.”
‘Himmelfahrt’ adds another great work to Subway to Sally’s imposing discography. Fans can look forward to hits like “Was Ihr Wollt”, “Leinen Los” or “Weit ist das Meer”.”
