Romuvos – ‘Spirits’ (2024)
Rating: 10/10

Label: Hammerheart Records
Romuvos are about to make a masterpiece. The Lithuanian band will in fact release the new album “Spirits” on the 9th of February 2024 and will consist of 8 tracks that are an excellent mix between metal and folk music played with acoustic instruments, sung entirely with clean vocals.
Musically speaking the album looks like a great mix between the sound of bands like Heilung and Wardruna, but with a much darker riffing, with lyrics sung in English, Lithuanian and old Prussian languages. These texts are deeply rooted in reviving the ancient practices and pagan traditions of the Baltic people before their Christianization. Among the songs that stand out there are “Fire“, which strikes for being a song that balances very well the metal part and the acoustic and ritualistic; “Become As One” which is the most metal, with doom hints; “Snake Dance“, opening track of the full-length that immediately makes clear the dark atmosphere of “Spirits” with its musicality that recalls the ritual, the spirituality of the Baltic peoples; “Garden Of The Sun” that is a little more spiritual than the others and is able to arouse almost a state of trance. All the songs of “Spirits” turn out to be the perfect mix of metal and folk, which mix very well with the dark atmosphere and with the typical instruments of the Baltic area. It’s a really good full-length, from the lyrics to the instrumental part, even the dark and ancestral atmosphere goes well with the clean vocals and with the ritualistic intent of the band. “Spirits” is a really good full-length, with 8 perfect songs in which the band placed emphasis on the ritualistic part, the environment and traditional folklore. The music of the Romuvos deepens the spiritual and historical aspects of the Baltic culture, offering the listener a deeper connection with the roots of these traditions and nature. This full-length is highly recommended to everyone, from folk metal enthusiasts to all those who are interested in the Baltic area history and traditions and also for whoever appreciate good music.
