The Hu – ‘Live at Glastonbury’ (2024)
Rating: 8.7/10
Release: 7 June 2024
Label: Better Noise Music
The new life album offered up by the Hu combines the best of a studio remix and a live album in one package. On one hand we are presented with sure-fire classics, as is usual for a live recording, but the way they are recorded they are bottom heavy and thick. A more than suitable audio curve for just rocking out to late at night after work with a glass of your favorite booze. On the other hand, the band’s crowd work is lively, energetic, and they manage to whip the crowd up really well. There is no polishing the crowd work for the sake of making a studio quality album or a studio album stand-in. What is presented here is on par with a Blind Guardian live album, definitely exceeding the lesser of their recent live albums. For fans of the Hu, this album will not fail to disappoint, and for people who have never listened to the Hu I recommend this as a starting point. There’s good material, a good sampling of the band’s energy and performance. Give the album a listen, the time investment is even less than other, more pretentious and less capable live releases.
