Rietas – ‘Routajuuret’ (2024)
Rating: 9.5/10
Release: 16 August 2024
Label: Independent
Finnish folk metal band Rietas published a new album with 10 new tracks this year called
“Routajuuret” on tne 16th of August. “Routajuuret” come out three years after the good debut
album “Ikiaikainen”.
This new album starts with “Etiäinen”, an instrumental track that sets the mood of the album.
Amongst the other nine tracks some stands out: “Aada” represent the heavier song in the
album and, despite that, the violin fits perfectly with the song and made this a perfect
headbanger; “Ristiin Naulattu”, with the second voice in growl that create a different attitude to
the song; “Käärmeiden Käräjät” that has an interesting intro with a voice delivered perfectly, as
in the whole album. From an instrumental side of the album, “Routajuuret”is a well-played
album, with all the instruments that highlights Raisa Ylinampa’s voice. The lyrics’ themes are
various: from the life of Aada (a shaman) to the attachment to a particular environment (Vanhan
Naan Nulkki).
In conclusion this is a very valid album, with 10 beautiful songs. It’s so far one of the best
alternative folk album of this summer.
