Second Album Theigns and Thralls released
Theigns and Thralls’ second album, titled ‘The Keep & The Spire’, marks a new chapter in the band’s journey, characterized by a fusion of folk-metal and classic rock sounds. Formed in 2021 to bring their debut album’s songs to live audiences, the group quickly gained attention with their unique musical blend.
Describing their sound in five words as “folk-metal mixed with classic rock”, the new album promises to push the boundaries of the band’s sonic palette. According to Kevin Ridley, the band’s primary songwriter, the record is heavier and darker than its predecessor, devoid of acoustic tracks and enriched with evolved and distinctive themes.
‘The Keep & The Spire’ draws inspiration from a variety of sources including ancient poetry, historical novels, and current events, reflecting the band’s penchant for compelling narratives and vivid imagery. The album features a series of tracks forming ‘The Maldon Suite’, a novelty in the band’s discography, unified by Anglo-Saxon and Viking themes.
The creative process saw Ridley collaborating with Per Ablinsson for lyric writing, adding a new layer of depth and meaning to the compositions. Hoping fans enjoy the listening experience, the album offers both high-energy crowd participation and reflective interludes, balancing energetic tracks with intimate pieces like ‘The Maldon Suite’.
In live performances, Theigns and Thralls promise a mix of audience engagement, sing-alongs, and dance, enhanced by surprise guest appearances. The band, comprised of renowned musicians in the folk-metal and rock scenes, has already garnered international interest for their dynamic stage presence and charismatic performances.
‘The Keep & The Spire’ not only continues Theigns and Thralls’ artistic journey but also marks a turning point in their sonic evolution. With the album set to solidify their position in the international music scene, fans can expect a collection of tracks that blend tradition and innovation in a captivating and engaging manner.
For fans of Skyclad, Waylander, and Cruachan, Theigns and Thralls’ ‘The Keep & The Spire’ offers a compelling addition to their playlists. Drawing parallels with Korpiklaani and Alestorm, the album promises to resonate with those who appreciate a blend of folk-inspired melodies, metal vigor, and sea shanty influences.
