Amon Amarth

Amon Amarth is typical for the bands which are outside the borders of Folk-metal.nl. A very popular band with Viking themes, but there are no folk-elements and it isn’t pagan either.
Since their modest start in 1992 as a underground band from Tumba, a suburb at the south of Stockholm, Amon Amarth has established as on of Europe’s top death metal bands. What makes them stand out is their use of Viking mythology in their lyrics and artwork, this besides their talent for epic melodies, which are solemn but underline the barbaric approach of heavy music. After the release of a demo and the signing with a record company, they could spend their energy on their unique style. The album which was released in 1998, got excellent critics. The band went on tour a lot, with Wacken 2004 as a highlight. To honour their loyal fans they released a 3 DVD set, at which no less then five full shows. And if this was a blessing, the band recorded an album after this which would be the separation between history and future of their career. The majestic guitar-riffs, thundering drums and raw vocals sounded never better or more convincing. The match with producer Jens Bogren was made in Valhalla.
