Arafel was founded in 1997 in Tel Aviv, Israel. The band started with black metal with influences of Slavic (Russian and Ukraine) folk. In 1999 they recorded a first demo. This was followed by a number of gigs. They decided to expand the band and after years of hard labor they recorded a first album in 2002. It became a concept-album which about a Russian hero Alexander Nevsky, Grand Duke of Russia in the 13th century. The album was well received worldwide. After some changes in the line-up, some new members joined Arafel at their concerts as well. This meant the band could return to the stage after two years.
In 2010 singer Helge (ex Equilibrium) joins the band, causing them to make a very nice start again.
But after their Paganfest tour in 2011 it remains quiet around this band.
