The story of Kalmah begins in 1991 when Pekka Kokko and Petri Sankala found the band Ancestor. After 2 demos’s a lead guitarist is added to the bands. When the band was shut down after demo’s and 5 bassists, Kalmah was born. A keyboard player was added and with new enthusiasm they wrote a song for a promo CD. Melodic death/trash/speed/black metal. This was their breakthrough and they signed a deal with a record label. No time was wasted en the album “Swamplord” was released in 2000. This album was received well and the number of gigs increased as well. With a slightly different line-up they started to work on a second album. In 2002 they got to play this Swampmetal at Wacken. After this there was another change of members. Followed by their masterpiece “The black waltz”. Dark, melodic, proud: Finnish!
