Rating: 6.9/10 Release: 16 December 2019 Label: Sound Age Productions Wolf Rahm’s latest album, Thicket, is interesting, to say the least. Like quite a few Folk Metal bands they don’t seem to take themselves seriously. Considering their sound lightheartedness may be for the best. In fact had they not undertaken darker music …Continue reading →

Rating: 7.5/10Release: 3 February 2020 Label: Independent I would like to think I am pretty familiar with a good number of folk metal related acts from Australia. When I saw a new release from Arbrynth from Melbourne, the name didn’t ring any bells. Doing some research, I see a debut …Continue reading →
2019 has been/was an incredible year in music and ended with the release of the album of the year for me in “Magnus” by the always epic Baldrs Draumar. My expectations were pretty high, and they absolutely delivered on every count… heavy, catchy, folky and another successful, fully realized concept album. This is no small feat already producing a massively successful concept album in “Aldgillissoan” from 2015. It also shouldn’t be lost that this album displaced the latest Borknagar and Saor albums from my top of the year list, so you know it is the real deal. Friesland’s favorite sons answered some questions for us regarding the album, the concept, the writing and a bunch of other items….. check it out…..
Rating: 9/10Release: 20 December 2019Label: Independent There is always one album every year that drops in too late for my end of the year lists that should be on it. Thanks Bergsvriden…. this year it is your turn and I will once again probably break the rules and put you …Continue reading →
