Interview with Baldrs Draumar

Posted on 21 October 2017 by Michel30 January 2021

In for a Fest with Baldrs?

One of my most anticipated album for 2017 was the acoustic album by Friesland’s favorite sons, Baldrs Draumar. After being in my top album list in 2015 with their last electric album “Aldgillissoan”, the boys decided to go unplugged for their next release and it doesn’t disappoint at all. “Fan Fryslâns Ferline” is all new material written specifically for this release (with one exception in “Hadagrims Fertriet” from the last album making it’s way on). I sent some questions over regarding the new album, the process of writing and recording as well as the big release party for it….check it out……

New Brand,
Brand New

Congrats on your epic new album “Fan Fryslâns Ferline”….what has been the reaction to it so far?
“Reactions are beyond our imaginations. Everyone seems to like it very much.
Reviews are also very positive!”

Lör’s very different influences

Posted on 30 September 2017 by Michel13 February 2021

Pennsylvania USA’s Lör have been around for a few years and finally committed their progressive folk metal stylings into a full-length album. “In Forgotten Sleep” was officially released via Bandcamp on August 11th and has consistently ranked among the top folk metal albums on there. As a side note, they were also one of the most requested acts to play at my folk metal festival this coming November. I caught up with vocalist Tyler Fedeli and sent him some questions regarding the album, their writing process, playing live and a few other things… check it out…

Æther Realm turns some cards

Posted on 23 June 2017 by Michel28 January 2021

North Carolina USA’s Æther Realm have released their sophomore album entitled “Tarot” via Primitive Ways on June 7th and what a 2nd full length it is. Featuring almost 75 minutes of music, the album also sees the band venturing into concept album territory of sorts and hitting numerous musical styles along the way. Lead vocalist/bassist Vincent “Jake” Jones and guitarists Heinrich Arnold and Donny Burbage all chimed in to answer some questions for us regarding the new album, the concept, the music scene in NC, the upcoming tour and a few other things…. check it out….

Tarot
Congrats on your new album “Tarot”…..what has been the response so far regarding it?
Jake: “It’s been pretty bonkers! Universally positive (except for a few posts on some Russian metal forum, one guy appears to have preferred our first album. I think that means we’re a real band?) I hope we can keep riding this wave for a while-one of my favorite things right now is waking up and finding a few new people that have “discovered” us, and written on our Facebook or sent us an email through Bandcamp telling us they think we’ve done their favorite album this year-I haven’t experienced that much. There was a little bit with “One Chosen……”, but not nearly like this, and it just makes me feel like we did something right you know?”
Heinrich: “It’s been awesome! Have quite a few friends who are NOT super invested into metal that are digging the album, which has been neat.”
Donny: “I’m just glad everyone digs the zany parts in it.”

Nyckelharpa talking on

Sweden’s Utmarken have returned in triumphant fashion with the release of their 2nd album entitled “Förfallstid”. Filled with powerful vocals, catchy riffs and nyckelharpa, “Förfallstid” treads into some new territory style wise from the debut of the year for us in 2016. Vocalist/nyckelharpist and killer musician Mathias Gyllengham has given us some responses regarding the new album, the stylistic changes, the writing and recording process and a few other things…… check it out….

Congrats on your new album “Förfallstid” which is about to be released…. have you gotten some response regarding it so far?
Thanks a lot, Jeff and Folk-metal.nl. As of this writing, which is before the release, it has only been heard by a select few. The response from that crowd has been very positive though.

Duskmourn into the Shadows

Posted on 4 June 2017 by Michel4 February 2021

June 16th marks the release date for the sophomore album from the mighty Duskmourn. “Of Shadow And Flame” is filled with everything Duskmourn had established on their debut (2014’s “Legends”) plus a heavier direction track and style wise while still sounding like Duskmourn. Walter Deyo and Bill Sharpe answered some questions for us once again regarding the new album, the recording and writing process plus a few other things… check it out…

Of Shadow And Flame
Congrats on your amazing 2nd album “Of Shadow And Flame”… what has been the feedback regarding it so far?
“Thank you! Feedback so far has been positive! We’ve had two official written reviews; both gave Of Shadow and Flame 10/10. Our inner-circle family and friends that have heard it also have very positive feedback (even after hearing the riffs day in and day out during the writing process! haha). They all agree that it’s an improvement upon Legends and we are curious and excited to see what the rest of the world thinks.”

Svaskalver from the folk-metal capital of Russia

Posted on 4 April 2017 by Michel21 February 2021
svaskalver int5

It’s always good to see, folk-metalbands crawling out of the pits of their own countries, crossing the borders and conquer stages outside their own region. Grimner and Midvinterblot from Sweden, Svaskalver from Russia and Polish Warbell join forces to fight battles in Czech Republic soon. An awesome package. You can read about Grimner and Midvinterblot elsewhere on Folk-metal.nl, now it’s time to put the spotlight on Svaskalver.
