XIV Dark Centuries Interview

After an extensive layoff from recording, 2020 marks the triumphant return of Germany’s XIV Dark Centuries with their new album “Waldvolk” coming on February 28th via Einheit. The long hibernation of sorts has done them well with what I feel is their most powerful, complete and fulfilling able to date. Many of the band members (Guitarists Uwe and Tobalt, vocalist Michel and drummer Manu) were available to answer some questions for us regarding the new album, new label, the time off, playing live and a few other things o f note… check it out…..

Interview with Bergsvriden

There is no band out there that gets as down and dirty as Sweden’s Bergsvriden. Need proof? Check out their latest album “Skogens Trolska Fasa” for a little taste of the insanity and darkness they create about as good as anyone out there. Multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Trollmania jumped on these questions for us regarding the new album, the history of the band, the writing process and a few other tidbits…. check it out……

About the Magnificent Magnus and More

Interview with Baldrs Draumar

2019 has been/was an incredible year in music and ended with the release of the album of the year for me in “Magnus” by the always epic Baldrs Draumar. My expectations were pretty high, and they absolutely delivered on every count… heavy, catchy, folky and another successful, fully realized concept album. This is no small feat already producing a massively successful concept album in “Aldgillissoan” from 2015. It also shouldn’t be lost that this album displaced the latest Borknagar and Saor albums from my top of the year list, so you know it is the real deal. Friesland’s favorite sons answered some questions for us regarding the album, the concept, the writing and a bunch of other items….. check it out…..

Elvarhoi

Interview with Elvarhøi

Elvarhøi’s debut full length ‘Dansen låter fra graven åter’ was chosen the as the ‘Best Debut-album’ by the team of Folk-metal.nl.
Time to have a chat with these guys, about this album, the long period it took to get this album to see the light of day and more.

Congratulations with your album ‘Dansen låter fra graven åter’ which is Folk-metal.nl’s Debut Album of 2019! What are your feelings?
Chris: “Hello Michel! First of all, an enormous thanks for the honor of being picked as your number 1! We cannot overstate how happy we are that our album receives such high praise after having worked so long to make it. It has been a true labour of passion, and the fact that it is able to touch other people and give something to listeners worldwide is extremely heartwarming to us. We were fully prepared to release it without anyone at all batting an eyelash, so this definitely means a lot to us.”

Interview with Nemoreus

Posted on 15 December 2019 by Michel11 November 2022

Introduction

Hi everybody, it is my pleasure to meet you! Would you please be so kind and introduce yourself to our readers?
“Hi, we are Nemoreus, a folk metal band from Vienna in Austria. We are 6 musicians combining heavy soundscapes with traditional folk instruments, such as violin, tin whistles and an Irish bouzouki. The current formation is active since 2018, but the roots of our band go back till 2012.”
What does the name “Nemoreus“ stand for? Is there any meaning behind this name? How was the name finding process and why did you choose this name
Fabian: “First of all the name finding process was really chaotic, since we needed to change our name twice until everyone was satisfied. Nemoreus is an old latin word, which roughly translates to “ belonging to the forest “.”

Interview with Wandering Oak

It has been a long hard road to get to this point for Wandering Oak. This US based act has finally unleashed their first full length “Passage Elemental” after a 4-year process since their debut EP “Advent” in 2015. If you think you will hear “traditional” folk metal, think again as there are more twists and turns on this album than an amusement park filled with roller coasters. Vocalist/guitarist Robert Pollard tackled some questions for us regarding the new album, the lineup, the writing, the tour and a few other items…. check it out…..

Barad Guldur Interview

Sometimes you stumble on a hidden gem. Lately a band called Barad Guldur from Italy was brought to our attention. We took the opportunity to ask them a few questions at once, so we can get to know them a little better.

The Blend

Hi, I think a lot of our readers don’t really know Barad Guldur. Can you tell us a bit how the band started?
“Hi to all of you at Folk Metal.nl and thanks for this interview! Barad Guldur were born from the desire to merge metal, folk and epic music with tales, horror stories, paganism and Tolkien’s writings. Our band started a few years ago with some cover songs that were shared on YouTube with the aim of finding the right sound.

Wind Rose Interview

Wind Rose didn’t only release a new album this year, but there are things going on live as well. Time to chat with Claudio about a few things.

Dwarves in Time

Wind Rose started quite a few years back. How did you guys meet?
“Hi everyone, Claudio here, guitarist of the band. Francesco and I were together in the same school of music in my small hometown in the province of Pisa. The school set up a Christmas concert and put us in the same band to play a couple of rock songs. The keyboardist Federico is my cousin, we started the band together and we included Francesco some months later. Cristiano started teaching bass at the same school of music, while Federico the drummer we got in touch with him when we were looking for a new drummer after the former one left the band.”
