Interview with Furor Gallico

Posted on 27 January 2019 by Michel8 February 2021

The Phoenix has arised

Many of the people who have been keeping up with Furor Gallico will no doubt realize from their promotional photos on social media, and from their new single, “The Phoenix”, that the band has undergone significant stylistic changes which I have mentioned in my earlier review, carry over to the sound of their new album. I reached out to the band with some questions about their new release, you can read the interview, covering everything from folk tales to war-paint, below.

Teshaleh Interview

Posted on 20 January 2019 by Michel21 February 2021

Fire From Maryland

teshaleh

Teshaleh is a recently formed act from here in the US (Maryland to be exact) and are issuing forth their debut EP “Born Of Fire” at the beginning of February via their Bandcamp page. Chock full of members (8) and musical styles, Teshaleh is poised to forge their own path and put themselves on the folk metal map. Guitarist Brett McCoy and multi-instrumentalist John Harford set a new record in answering some interview questions (less than a day turnaround) and we discussed the EP, the writing process, the influences, playing live and a few other things of note….check it out……

Skalmold Sorgir

After much eager anticipation I have gotten a few of my questions answered about Skälmold’s latest album, Sorgir. We heard back from Þráinn Árni Baldvinsson, the band’s lead guitarist. It turned out they were more then willing to answer a few questions. The conclusion of this interview, which has been in the works since the release of the album can be read below.

Windfaerer Interview

Posted on 18 November 2018 by Michel25 January 2021

Spiritual Awakening

Windfaerer

It has truly been an epic year for my friends from NJ in the mighty Windfaerer on numerous levels. Signing to Avantgarde, a killer tour and string of festival dates and the release of their 3rd full length “Alma” makes for a successful 2018. The entire band contributed to the interview that follows. Guitarist/Vocalist Mike Gonçalves (MG), Violinist Ben Karas (BK), guitarist Itay Keren (IK), bassist Michael Munoz (MM) and Drummer James Applegate (JA) answered questions regarding the new album, the label, the touring and their favorite music from 2018… check it out…

Cruadalach Interview

Posted on 11 November 2018 by Michel22 January 2021

Brave and Cruel

Cruadalach

The Czech Republic probably has one of the most eclectic and heaviest bands around in the killer Cruadalach. Combining folky goodness with a nod towards hardcore, their 3rd full length album “Raised By Wolves” sees them honing their sound even more, despite having some new faces in the band. We were lucky to have a few of the Cruadalachians answer some questions for us including guitarists Honza “Pigboss” Knotek and Honza “Halfred” Kapic and multi-instrumentalist Petra Jadrna. We touched on the new album, the new members, the hardcore influenced sound and a few other things… check it out…

Interview with Anaïs

Anais

I thought it would be interesting (and hopefully you do too!) to conduct some interviews with others associated with the folk metal community other than the musicians. My first interview is a bonus as you get both musician included with one of my favorites….musician and artist, Anais Mulgrew. You would know her from her epic work behind the kit in Celtachor whose latest album “Fiannaiocht” is a top 10 for sure this year for me. She is also an amazing artist in a multitude of mediums and I am sure you have enjoyed her work, whether you knew it or not. She answered some questions for us regarding her art, her influences and some of her projects…..check it out…..

And then there was… Drakkarus

Posted on 19 August 2018 by Michel19 January 2021

Drakkarus Interview

Australia’s Drakkarus have just issued their debut independent self-titled album. Formed out of the untimely demise of one of my all time favs in Trollgasm, Drakkarus is forging a new path in Viking metal from the land down under. Vocalist Dani Read and guitarist Mick Krucler tackled some questions for us regarding the new band, the new album, playing some fests and some other things…check it out….

Brymir Interview

Posted on 12 August 2018 by Michel19 January 2021

Constantly Evolving

Brymir of Finland have been in the business for quite a while. Having released only two albums to date, theirs is a small yet solid discography. And as you probably know already, they are currently working on their third record. Although not many details have been released yet regarding the new album, just the preview track “Chasing the Skyline” gives one a cause for celebration and excitement! Since the signs of a strong comeback are there, we felt like it’d be good to have a chat. Please enjoy.

Zmey Gorynich interview

I may have already “discovered” the debut album for 2018 with the first full length from Zmey Gorynich from Russia. Entitled “Mother Russia” is filled with mostly out of control, blazing fast folk metal with tons of catchy vocal lines and memorable riffs with dashes of humor and electronica. Vocalist Mityay answered some questions for us regarding the new album, the name, the label, the scene in Moscow and a few other things of note….check it out……
