Romuvos Interview

The Baltics have a lot of Folk Metal appeal, not only does it have incredible scenic beauty, but it is also very close historically and geographically to viking influence and it is one of those regions that, for the most part, maintained tradition in the face of Roman influence and later monastic crusaders. So it should come as no suprise that Romuvos from Lithuania can get tons of mileage by drawing from these aspects of Baltic heritage. In honour of their upcoming release, we contacted Velnias with some questions to find out more about their current project as well as their musical inspirations.

Tyr Interview

Folkmetal.nl sits down with Heri

At long last, Faroese viking metallers Týr has decided to tour the US again. Touring with Orphaned Land and Aeternam among others, Tyr mentioned work on a new album was in progress with the tour announcement. When the band was playing in my local area I had the opportunity to sit down with frontman Heri Joensen to talk about touring, songwriting and the new album in the works.

Vorgrum Interview

Posted on 3 June 2018 by Michel17 January 2021

Like a Brainstorm

Need some catchy swampy folk metal? The new Vorgrum album is sure to hit the spot then. Entitled ‘Party In The Deep’, these South American’s really know how to cut loose and go for broke on the new album. With 13 brand new tracks, ‘Party….’ pushes their blend of black and folk metal into some new territory while still retaining the original sound they have cultivated over the last few years. We had the honor of having Folter and Iti tag team some questions for us regarding the new album, the scene in Argentina, the big upcoming tour and a few other things …check it out…

Midnattsol Interview

Nordic Folk and Chocolate?

midnattsol carmen

It’s always exciting to hear that one of your favourite bands coming back with a new album after a long time. I’m talking about Midnattsol right now, a band I really liked in the days of yore. The rest is the usual story; kid grows up, moves onto more extreme stuff and mostly forgets about the band that helped shape his early taste of (folk) metal. Then the silence has been broken. Midnattsol was back after 7 years and we were getting a new album. Was it gonna be any good? How much did the things change? These questions will not be answered here as this ain’t a review but whatever preview (prehear?) we’ve got so far suggests this one’s going to be a good one. So we took this occasion and did this interview with the frontwoman Carmen. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy it as much as I did. New album “The Aftermath” has just come out on Napalm Records.

Waylander Interview

Among the Folk Metal bands working on new material this year is Waylander. The Northern Ireland based folk metallers announced the release of a new album a few months back. I contacted Waylander’s Ard Chieftain O’Hagan to ask about him some questions about the new release and the current state of Folk Metal.

Heidevolk Interview

Dutch Fire

Our friends in Heidevolk have released another amazing album in 2018 following my favorite album of 2015 in “Velua”. With a solidified lineup now, the Dutch horde unleashed “Vuur Van Verzet” featuring a bevy of new sounds and some of the familiar classic Heideviolk as well. Bassist extraordinaire Rowan Roodbaert answered some questions for us regarding the album , the lineup, the tour and a few other things… check it out…

Diabula Rasa Interview

Posted on 15 April 2018 by Michel29 April 2021

Something Immortal

Hailing from Italy, Diabula Rasa have been in existence since 1999, albeit under different monikers. They started as a medieval music band and evolved into an act that artfully combines that music with an energetic mix of heavy, power, and industrial metal. Yes, there indeed are electronic elements in Diabula Rasa’s music which make them even more interesting. While they’re not the most productive of folk metal bands – just three albums in thirteen years – the quality of their output has been very good. Now we’ve had to chance to interview main-man Luca Veroli on quite a few topics and I’m glad to the answers we’ve got were very detailed and informative. I hope you enjoy it.

Sojourner Interview

Posted on 8 April 2018 by Michel16 January 2021

Of Shadowed Paths

Internation act Sojourner have returned with a follow up to their epic debut “Empires of Ash” with even more epicness. “The Shadowed Road” continues to see them hone their sound while adding more parts to their core style. Equally heavy and melodic, the new album sees them including a new member to the ranks which will propel them even further down the road. All of the members added some comments to the questions thrown their way which included the writing and recording the new album, the new member, playing live and a few other things…..check it out……

Celtibeerian Interview

Posted on 1 April 2018 by Michel16 January 2021

Human Souls and Underworld Gods

Celtibeerian have been in existence for 7 years, stylishly blending heavy metal with their own brand of folk music. They were one of the first bands I’ve discovered I’d been introduced to folk metal. They have been consistently good at sating my hunger for fiddle-and-whistle-accompanied metal, getting better and better with age like a fine wine (more on that later). They have released their fourth studio effort Deiwos in December, 2017, and it was damn good. If you frequent this site you’ve probably already found that out yourself but if you haven’t, I vehemently urge you to check it out. In the meantime, enjoy this interview we did with their vocalist/bassist Gustavo where he told us about the band’s origins, the creation process of Deiwos, their love for wine, and more.

Grimner Interview

Posted on 18 March 2018 by Michel16 January 2021

Epic Events

Sweden’s Grimner have once again put together another epic album for label Despotz with their latest opus “Vanadrottning” With their 3rd full length under their collective belts, Grimner is now poised to vault into the stratosphere with a string of European tour dates to promote the album. Flute specialist Johan Rydberg answered some questions for us regarding the latest album, the lineup change, the tour and a few other things… check it out…

Once again another epic album from Grimner… what have you been hearing as far as how it has been received so far?
“Thank you very much! The reception has been really good so far. Some seem to like the heavier sound of this album although some seems prefer the more melodic/epic previous album. Anyhow not much bad critique so far.”
