Midnattsol Interview

Posted on 27 May 2018 by Michel17 January 2021

Nordic Folk and Chocolate?

midnattsol carmen

It’s always exciting to hear that one of your favourite bands coming back with a new album after a long time. I’m talking about Midnattsol right now, a band I really liked in the days of yore. The rest is the usual story; kid grows up, moves onto more extreme stuff and mostly forgets about the band that helped shape his early taste of (folk) metal. Then the silence has been broken. Midnattsol was back after 7 years and we were getting a new album. Was it gonna be any good? How much did the things change? These questions will not be answered here as this ain’t a review but whatever preview (prehear?) we’ve got so far suggests this one’s going to be a good one. So we took this occasion and did this interview with the frontwoman Carmen. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy it as much as I did. New album “The Aftermath” has just come out on Napalm Records.

Belenos Best of Live

By: Mert Rating: 9/10 Release: 30 March 2018 Label: Northern Silence Productions We all have those initiation bands that first introduce us to a genre of music of which we have no idea. Belenos, along with Menhir and Falkenbach, was the band that got me interested in the whole pagan … Continue reading →

Diabula Rasa Interview

Posted on 15 April 2018 by Michel29 April 2021

Something Immortal

Hailing from Italy, Diabula Rasa have been in existence since 1999, albeit under different monikers. They started as a medieval music band and evolved into an act that artfully combines that music with an energetic mix of heavy, power, and industrial metal. Yes, there indeed are electronic elements in Diabula Rasa’s music which make them even more interesting. While they’re not the most productive of folk metal bands – just three albums in thirteen years – the quality of their output has been very good. Now we’ve had to chance to interview main-man Luca Veroli on quite a few topics and I’m glad to the answers we’ve got were very detailed and informative. I hope you enjoy it.

Lesyar – ‘My Dva Kryla’ (2018)

Posted on 4 April 2018 by Michel29 April 2021

Rating: 6.5/10 Release: 10 March 2018 Label: Independent Lesyar’s album is a mix of so many things. Lots of re-recordings, amazing violins, flutes, fierce guitar solos, orchestra and punk-like background vocals, rap-like performance sometimes and a variety of background instruments that merge into what give this album an confusing, intriguing … Continue reading →

Celtibeerian Interview

Posted on 1 April 2018 by Michel16 January 2021

Human Souls and Underworld Gods

Celtibeerian have been in existence for 7 years, stylishly blending heavy metal with their own brand of folk music. They were one of the first bands I’ve discovered I’d been introduced to folk metal. They have been consistently good at sating my hunger for fiddle-and-whistle-accompanied metal, getting better and better with age like a fine wine (more on that later). They have released their fourth studio effort Deiwos in December, 2017, and it was damn good. If you frequent this site you’ve probably already found that out yourself but if you haven’t, I vehemently urge you to check it out. In the meantime, enjoy this interview we did with their vocalist/bassist Gustavo where he told us about the band’s origins, the creation process of Deiwos, their love for wine, and more.

Interview with Chen of Orphaned Land

Posted on 25 February 2018 by Michel16 January 2021

A Big Shout Out

Israel’s folk metal pioneers Orphaned Land need no introduction. Formed in 1992, they’ve been active for more than 20 (there was a hiatus between 1997 and 2001) years and giving us prime examples of folk metal. They take their time between releases but one can always be sure that the next Orphaned Land records is going to be amazing. And we’ve assured of that once again when they returned with Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs, 5 years after All Is One. This is an utterly impressive album that is crafted passionately and diligently. I’m not at all hesitant call Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs their magnum opus. Since this was the case, an interview with them was a must. We had a chat with the lead guitarist (also bouzoukist, pianist, and xylophonist) Chen Balbus.
Enjoy.

Interview with Jakke and Mikko of Crimfall

Posted on 20 January 2018 by Michel19 January 2021

Crimfall’s Bombastic Energy

Finland’s Crimfall is truly a special band which draws influences from many styles and manages to blend them together to create music that is epic, emotive and powerful without ever making it feel like it is just cluttered with random ideas. After 6 six years, they are back with their most amazing album to date, Amain, and we have the pleasure to bring you this interview with Jakke Viitala and Mikko Häkkinen.

Congratulations on your new album. Amain has been out for some time now. How has the reception been so far?
Jakke: “The reception has been very good. Both in Finland and abroad. The people and reviewers who have been following our career since “as the path unfolds” have all agreed that AMAIN is our strongest and best album so far.”
